Mount Abu is also referred to as “An Oasis in the Desert,” for the fact that it is the point from where several streams, waterfalls and lakes originate. The area was leased to the British Empire by the Maharaja of Sirohi. Mount Abu was also a preferred summer destination among the British rulers. Apart from this, mythological tales about Mount Abu states that it is the home to millions of Hindu Gods and goddesses. This place was also home to many saints and sages of the past era. Later proceed for city tour of Mount Abu. The Dilwara Jain Temple is one of the most famous and beautiful Jain temples in the world. The architecture and stone carvings are something noteworthy. The interior decoration of the temple highlights the architectural brilliance and the grandeur of human artisanship. These temples were built in the period between 11th to 13th centuries A.D. The ornamental details carved out of marble on the ceilings and on the pillars are extremely beautiful. As per the history of the place it is said that the marble stones that were used in making the temple were transported on elephant backs from the Arasoori Hills. Dilwara temple is a pious Jain pilgrimage centre. The temple is divided into five main parts and each part of the temple is dedicated to five Jain Tirthankaras: Achalgarh Fort stands as a testimony to the medieval era. Rana Kumbha commissioned the fort. It is situated at 8Kilometres from the town and is well connected by road. The battlement walls surround the Achalgarh fort on all its sides. The fort is situated on top of a mountain peak. Within the walls one will find fortresses and temples. Achaleshwar Temple has a Nandi (bull) which is made up of five metals, which are gold, silver, copper, brass and zinc and weighs more than 4 Tonnes. Achaleshwar temple was built in the ninth century and as per legends it is said that the temple was built around a toe print of Lord Shiva. Achaleshwar temple is also said to contain a natural Shivalinga.( phallic form of Lord Shiva ).
